You are the Custodians of the Ecosystem ~ Prof Kabasa to Vets
On 31st March 2021 during the Uganda Veterinary Association Annual General Meeting, the Principal COVAB, Prof. John David Kabasa petitioned leaders to maintain their purpose to those they lead, no matter the challenges. He reminded all veterinarians of the intensification of modernization which is suffocating the animal kingdom on which humans depend, and therefore needs to be protected.
“You are the custodians of the ecosystem and incharge of the welfare of the animals. With increased modernization, the human and animal contact with germs has as well increased, therefore as veterinarians, we are supposed to find solutions,” said Prof. Kabasa.
He further reflected on the presence of a biosafety and biosecurity department at COVAB which is ensuring capacity building to the young vets, so that there is increased protection of the human-animal world from pathogens.
The convention was held to brainstorm ideas on how to further improve the veterinary profession. It brought together veterinarians from allover the country, hosted by the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (COVAB), Makerere University at the Ruth Keesling Gardens.
