COVAB Freshers Orientation 2022: Fresh men and women urged to aim at becoming leaders.
On Friday 4th February 2022, the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio Security (CoVAB) formerly welcomed the first year students with a call on them to aim at becoming leaders in their respective fields of speciality.
The Outgoing Principal of the College Prof. John David Kabasa, while welcoming the students explained the background of the College and advised them that the acquisition of Knowledge and capacity building was a continuous process.

He said based on his leadership experience at the College, in comparison to the students hat offered the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine in the past, the current students had a lot of opportunities before them and urged them to avoid complaining but take advantage of the changes brought about by the reviews in the curriculum conducted over time.
Prof. Kabasa gave reference to the Bible as the foundation of the Veterinary vocation citing the example of the creation of the animal that was made for the wellbeing of man. ‘As you come to this College, the original intent it exists is because of the wellbeing of humanity’ he said. He noted that the present increase in the size of the population demands that the veterinarians add value to plants and animals in order to care for the welfare of man.
He said leadership was one of the key principles of the professionals in the College and asked the students as the next generation of leaders to appreciate this value bestowed upon them, avoid complaining but rather use whatever was at their disposal for more powerful things to happen. He said when the Veterinary Medicine curriculum was first developed in the 1700s, it aimed at looking after animals meant to be used by the colonial masters. The recent reforms in the 1900s saw the change towards bio medical professionals that blended medicine and biology. He said the role of the College was to enable transformation and creation of opportunity by addressing the challenges at hand.

Prof. Kabasa welcomed the incoming Principal Prof. Frank Mwiine and Wished great success. The Incoming Principal who has been serving as the Dean School of Biotechnical and Laboratory Science (SBLS) welcomed freshers and gave then strong words of wisdom.
Dr. Mugasa Clare HOD Biotechnical and Diagnostic Sciences
The incoming students were also addressed by a number of Heads of departments that included Dr. Mugasa Clare from the Biotechnical and Diagnostic Sciences who urged the students to get to know the persons that will be teaching them and prepare to start lectures promptly.
Dr. Rose Azuba HOD Livestock and Industrial Resources (LIR)
Dr. Rose Azuba the Head of Department Livestock and Industrial Resources (LIR) explained to the incoming students the various courses taught in the department. He urged them to ensure that they get a momentous time at the University by getting entrenched into the culture of the College by appreciating the vision and mission of the college and know why they were in that particular unit.
Assoc. Professor Kankya Clovince HOD Biosecurity, Ecosystem and Public Health
Assoc. Professor Kankya Clovince, Head of department Biosecurity, Ecosystem and Public Health urged the students to ensure they keep pace and avoid getting destructed during their stay at the University. He asked them to aim at completing the program in the set time. He said the program offers a number of employable opportunities such as researchers and that this could only be realised if the students worked hard and attained good degrees.
Dr. Immaculate Nakalembe HOD BBS
Dr. Immaculate Nakalembe advised the students specifically the males take good care of their personal hygiene, avoid destructive social behaviour like taking drugs and other relations that would only derail them from their main mandate while at University.
