THE ANNUAL MVSA CAREER’S DAY

The Annual MVSA career’s day.

The College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security (CoVAB) held the Career’s event on 16th March, 2017, which was commemorated in the College Media Hall.
The event was for Veterinary students to get career guidance from a panel of invited inspirational speakers who expressed to students the various ideas to professional career achievement.
The panel of speakers included; the Principal CoVAB, Prof. John David Kabasa, who presented to students the structure of the College, an Associate Professor at CoVAB, Dr. Lawrence Mugisha, the Deputy Principal of the College, Dr. Nakavuma Jesca, the Dean SVAR, Dr. Tweyongyere, Henry Mugisha who was one of the invited panelists, and the Corporates Operations Manager from MTK Uganda Limited, Dr. Francis Kitaka Junior.
The event was organized by the Makerere University Veterinary Student’s Association (MVSA) and the main theme was; “Inspiring and capacity building to the young Vets.”
During the career discussions, students were urged to use the available institutional opportunities to continuous and successful professional development. These opportunities lie in veterinary institutions and associations, in which students could join and become members in order to obtain career development.
Dr. Lawrence Mugisha an Associate Professor in the Department of Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Resources informed students that there are many opportunities for students from wild life resources due to Wildlife Biodiversity. Students could also become members in associations such as; the Wildlife Veterinary Association, Wild life Disease Association, the Uganda Veterinary Association with opportunities to students which include internship placements.
During his presentation about Veterinary influence to human life and the economy, Prof. Kabasa urged students to understand what the Veterinary profession is about in order to build their capacities and be able to attract international scientists for collaboration in research making. He added that as veterinarians, they must find their strengths and use them to excel.
Some students also participated in a quiz in which third year students emerged as winners. The quiz was aimed at testing students’ knowledge on veterinary realities. At the end of the quiz, a sum of 16 certificates was awarded to all the participants.
