THE ANNUAL COVAB SPORTS GALA

AFRISA students show off their trophyThe annual CoVAB sports Gala.

From 21st to 25th March, 2017, the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB) held its Annual Sports Gala. AFRISA emerged as the overall winners for both indoor and outdoor games. The indoor games were held at the College quadrangle while the outdoor games were at the Makerere University main sports grounds.
In an interview with the Assistant students’ representative on the academic and sports board CoVAB, Lydia Patricia Asekenye, she highlighted that the sports activities were intended to bring unity among students from the different college programs and to refresh students after their tight academic schedules.

The indoor games

Playing cards was the first sports activity held with BLT 1 students emerging as winners with a 10 points score. The first runners up were BLT 3 students with 7.5 points and BLT 2 students emerged as the second runners up with 5 points. The rest of the teams went away with 2.5 points each.

 Other indoor games included “Ludo,” chess, draft and scrabble which were played on respective days.

Outdoor sports games

The outdoor games were held on Saturday, 25th March, 2017 and they contributed 60% of the entire sports gala. Football was 30 points while volleyball and athletics were 15 points each.

AFRISA team emerged as the overall best after winning in football and emerging as the second best team in volleyball. With both the indoor and outdoor games, AFRISA scored a total of 52.8 points. BLT1 emerged as the second best team overall with a total score of 50.6 points. BLT 1 was the best team in the indoor games. In the outdoor games, they emerged as the best in volleyball and fared well in athletics where they claimed the second position. BVM 3 emerged as the third team in all, after claiming second position in the indoor games and a good score in athletics. The other teams that followed were; BVM 2 in the fourth position, BVM 1 in the 5th position, BLT 3- 6th , BAP-7th, BLT 2 and BVM 4 in the 8th position, while WHM claimed the 10th position.
